About
Strange Case Studios is the creative home of Writer, Director and Animator; Mike Amos. The studio is focused on expanding the scope of animation in both content and style, and exploring darker and more complex emotional themes.
Strange Case draws upon Mike’s twenty years of experience working at major studios including Disney and DreamWorks. Mike has worked on blockbuster features including ‘Mr Peabody and Sherman, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 3’, Kung Fu Panda 3’, ‘Boss Baby 1 and 2’ and ‘Trolls World Tour’. This big studio experience is coupled with his unique history of previously running his own successful animation studio in Australia, where he developed both original IP for animated TV series and video games, as well as working with major clients including Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, ABC, Microsoft Game Studios, Nintendo and many more.
Mike has directed and animated a number of animated shorts that have been exhibited in film festivals around the world including, Annecy, Stuttgart, USA and Hiroshima International Film Festivals along with winning awards at the Asia Animation Super Pitch for his original TV series, ‘El Mariachi’.
Strange Case is built upon a love of cinema, especially films with darker and more complex or emotional themes that are not always explored in big budget Hollywood animated features. We have a strong desire to tell these stories in mediums that help push the boundaries and celebrate the possibilities of animated filmmaking. Through more illustrative design, highly stylized rendering and lighting techniques and hybrid live action and animation combinations to tell truly unique stories.
Strange Case is currently in production on their first of three original short films. ‘Reload’ is a short hybrid animated film combining live action and cg animation. Shot on glorious 70mm widescreen cinemascope Kodak Eastman Double X black and white film and Leica lenses, it offers a very exciting and totally unique style to an animated film.
Strange Case is based Los Angeles, California, but teams up with artists and filmmakers globally including France, London, Canada and Asia.
